With salons closed for quarantine, nails are looking pretty raggedy about now. But its not like anyone is going to see them right? Wrong!
Last week during a Facetime call, my friend commented on my nails. I thanked her and thought little of it. A few days later, it happened again. A couple days ago on a Zoom meeting it happened again and again today during a Zoom class. It never occurred to me that anyone could see my nails, let alone feel the need to comment on them!
My nails are one of the few things I’ve maintained during this time. I actually do them once a week now, which is more often than BQ (Before Quarantine). While I can’t help you replicate the relaxation or the fantastic hand massages of a nail salon (insert tear emoji), here are a few gorgeous nail looks you can achieve at home without any extra skills or tricks, just polish.
Nude Nails
Now is a great time to focus on natural nail care. Rather than using polish, you can simply use a nail oil to nourish the nail and buff for a nice shine. If your nails are weak, thin, or brittle, try adding a nail strengthening base coat and finish with a clear topcoat. Check out Two Kids and a Coupon for a great, basic manicure. If your nails are discolored, a nude polish is elegant and trendy. Simply choose a color close to your skin tone. If you want to add something special, try a nail sticker like @aneshia_ with her People of Color nude polish shown below.
Rainbow Nails
If you have a wide variety of colors, rainbow nails are for you. I LOVE nail polish mini sets so I have tons of tiny bottles. For this look, you paint each nail a different color. The point is that the colors coordinate, not match. You can use all bright colors, all pastels, different colors in the same color family, all metallics…and so on. The possibilities are endless! The Essie Expressive Quick Dry polish has the perfect colors for achieving the pastel look. Check out this review from Mom Generations. I’m also kind of obsessed with the Olive & June ❤️Zeba Collection for rainbow nails.
Metallic Nails
Metallic nails catch the light so beautifully and are a great option in any color. Classic silver and gold look fantastic whether its more matte or mirrored. While I love a standard silver or gold nail ( I’m rockiń a silver nail like the one below right now! ), a mirrored metallic nail looks rocker chic and gives off a cool, distressed vibe as it chips and scratches.
Matte Nails
Matte nails are always an eye catching option simply because its not the standard, but its also a little more understated than its shiny counterparts. The best part is that you don’t need an entire set of new polishes to pull off this look. A matte top coat is all you need to turn every color you own into a matte polish.
